چکیده

Abstract Wild oat is a herbicide resistance-prone global weed species that causes significant economic losses in dryland and horticultural agriculture. As result, there has been research effort to control this species. A major impediment the seed coat-mediated dormancy of wild oat, which requires labor-intensive incision or puncturing coat initiate germination. This study defines most efficient settings mechanical thresher overcome then validates these using multiple populations collected from Western Australian grain belt. We also compare effects rapid scarification known germination stimulus tactics such as with sulfuric acid (H 2 SO 4 ), partial endosperm removal, sandpaper coat, immersion sodium nitroprusside (NO donor SNP) solution on seedling growth rate. Threshing treatment 1,500 rpm for 5 s provides equivalent compared manually individual seeds, no difference relative The seeds resulted greater (66%) than H (0%), removal (10%), (25%), exposure NO SNP (34%). demonstrates physical can be rapidly commercially available thresher.

DELLA-Mediated Cotyledon Expansion Breaks Coat-Imposed Seed Dormancy

Seed dormancy is a key adaptive trait in plants responsible for the soil seed bank. The long established hormone-balance theory describes the antagonistic roles of the dormancy promoting plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA), and the germination promoting hormone gibberellin (GA) in dormancy control. Light, temperature, and other dormancy-breaking signals function to modulate the synthesis and perc...

Commercial Seed Lots Exhibit Reduced Seed Dormancy in Comparison to Wild Seed Lots of Echinacea purpurea.

Seed germination patterns were studied in E. purpurea (L.) Moench grouped by seed source, one group of seven lots from commercially cultivated populations and a second group of nine lots regenerated from ex situ conserved wild populations. Germination tests were conducted in a growth chamber in light (40 μmol·m(-2)·s(-1)) or darkness at 25 °C for 20 days after soaking the seeds in water for 10 ...

investigating the performance of prechilling, and chemical and mechanical scarification treatments on the breaking seed dormancy in velvetleaf (abutilon theophrasti)

seed dormancy is one of the major problems in the study of the effects of different factors on the weed seed germination characteristics because healthy seeds without dormancy, having high vigor and germinability are needed in these studies. this experiment was carried out to find simple, applicable, cheap, quick and efficient methods to breaking seed dormancy in velvetleaf which is one of the ...

Seed Scarification Techniques in Silver Leaf Lupine

A major problem affecting the populations of the endangered mission blue butterfly of the northern coast of California is the declining numbers of its host plant, the silver leaf lupine (Lupinus albifrons), due to competition with non-native species. An attempt to ensure the restoration of populations of L. albifrons through germination in greenhouses and subsequent transplantation was initiate...

DOR: 98.1000/2383-1251.1397.5.55.9.1.1603.41 Extended abstract Introduction: Malva (Malva neglecta) is one of perennial plants of the Malvaceae family. One of the most important mechanisms for survival of the plants is dormancy, rest or distance in germination and growth; in this case, despite favorable conditions for germination, the seed remains at rest for an indefinite period of time....
